As a result, it acts as a birth certificate. A copy of this document is often necessary for certain administrative procedures, such as civil marriage, partnership or the application for family allowances or housing benefit.<\/p>\n<p>All births must be declared to the civil registrar of the commune where the birth took place within 5 days, not including the day of delivery. The birth may be declared by the father, mother, midwife or any other person who has attended the delivery (upon presentation of the \u201cbirth certificate\u201d issued by the doctor or midwife).<\/p>\n<p>If the couple is not married, it is imperative that the father declares the birth of the child, otherwise the father\u2019s name will not appear on the certificate. If the place of birth of the child is not the same as their place of residence, the child must also be registered in the population register of the municipal administration of the place of residence. Full copies, birth certificate extracts as well as international birth certificate extracts are drawn up by the municipality of the place of birth.
