Door-to-Door Sales in Luxembourg: Consumer Rights and Protection<\/strong><\/p>\n

Since April 2014, door-to-door sales\u2014also known as canvassing\u2014have no longer been prohibited in Luxembourg. However, although this commercial practice is permitted, it is strictly regulated in order to protect consumers.<\/p>\n

Residents of Luxembourg have a fundamental right: the right to refuse door-to-door solicitation. To express their opposition to door-to-door sales, they may place a \u201cNo Canvassing\u201d sticker on their doorbell or door.<\/p>\n

Availability of Stickers<\/h3>\n

The City of Ettelbruck provides these stickers free of charge. They can be collected at the reception desk of the Town Hall during opening hours.<\/p>\n

It is important to note that even in the absence of a sticker, sellers must respect a consumer\u2019s wish not to be solicited. In the event of non-compliance, consumers may report abuses to the competent authorities.<\/p>\n

In such situations, the customer often finds themselves powerless when dealing with the responsible service provider and without any recourse to obtain repairs or guarantees for the work carried out.<\/p>\n

Checks to Carry Out<\/h3>\n

To avoid unpleasant surprises, the Consumer Protection Directorate recommends engaging only companies and tradespeople who are registered with the Trade and Companies Register and who hold a valid business permit. Before making any commitment, it is advisable to check the following points:<\/p>\n

    Identity of the professional:<\/strong> It is possible to verify online whether the company is registered with the Trade and Companies Register and holds a valid business permit for the activity carried out.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    Insurance:<\/strong> Where applicable, request a copy of the service provider\u2019s professional civil liability insurance.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    Right of withdrawal:<\/strong> Check that a 14-day right of withdrawal without justification exists, as provided for by law.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    Detailed quotation:<\/strong> Request a precise quotation stating the costs and completion deadlines before signing anything.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
