The "Maartplaz" project was developed in close collaboration with the citizens of Ettelbruck. During 4 workshops held in 2014, an exchange of ideas took place. Together, they came up with a plan to make the Place Marie-Adéläide considerably more attractive by reducing the number of parking spaces.
According to the vision, the restaurant and bistro terraces will be enlarged, and a children's playground and water feature will be created. The project will be rounded off by the possibility of holding events in the square, which will make the most of the public space.
The concept was approved by the local council in 2015 and is implemented in different phases.
At the public presentation on 25 April 2017, the preliminary project was unveiled to the town's citizens. Following a feasibility study, the final project was presented to the local council in June 2021.
Since then, 2 phases of the project have been completed:
- extending the terraces
- construction of the new "Pont Godchaux" footbridge linking Place Marie-Adélaïde to the Deich parking and the cycle path.
The final phase, involving the development of the link between the footbridge and the Grand-Rue, is due to start in autumn 2023.
Work on the infrastructure, the playground and the foundations for the pavilion will then begin.
Estimated budget: 6.700.000 €
