Construction work on the tunnel began in March at the Waark parking. Initially, bored piles will be driven into the ground on the first construction section. It will take around six months for all the piles to be installed in this section, which is around 100 metres long on both sides.
Work on the second section will start in autumn 2023. This section largely concerns the land on which the old station building once stood. Steel piles will be driven into the ground and a concrete slab poured over them so that construction work can begin on the youth hostel (2025) and the new passenger building (2027).
